Arundel castle was founded by Roger de Montgomery on Christmas Day 1067 and he became the very first person to hold the earldom of Arundel by the graces of William the Conqueror. The castle was very badly damaged during the time of the English Civil War but they managed to restore it to its former glory in the 18th and 19th centuries. Queen Victoria paid a visit to the castle in 1846 and enjoyed the experience , the 14th Duke then started even more work on the castle and this is how you see it today held by the 18th Duke.

The South Downs

The good news about this area of land is that a lot of it cannot be built on because it has been deemed a national park by the government. One of the big points of the area is Cissbury ring and it serves as the highest point in Worthing too. There have actually been a fair number of television shows shot on the set of Arundel castle and one of them is the 1988 episode of Doctor Who named Silver Nemesis as the castle of Arundel was depicted as being Windsor castle.
