Selecting The Right Satellite TV Equipment
Satellite television is constantly progressing and in turn, the related satellite TV equipment becomes increasingly complex. Depending on your comfort level with technology, selecting the right satellite TV equipment, like the right HD satellite receiver, may seem like a huge task. However, with the right information, selecting satellite TV equipment that meets your needs is much easier than it seems.
Satellite Dish
One of the most essential pieces of satellite TV equipment is the satellite dish. Thankfully, gone are the days of needing the space monopolizing dishes of early satellite television. Today, satellite dishes make it possible to get TV everywhere and come in several different sizes which are much less obtrusive. Most standard dishes are between 20 and 36 inches wide.
Receivers
In order for the television to receive the signal from the satellite dish, the next essential piece of satellite TV equipment needed is the receiver. The receiver takes the scrambled signal, decompresses it, and delivers it to the television. Receivers are generally slim boxes that sit near the television. There are many models of receivers available with different levels of functionality, from very basic to advanced capabilities. They types of receivers can be broken into three categories:
• Basic Receivers allow the satellite TV subscriber to receive basic programming and the purchased programming packages without any enhanced features.
Digital Video Recording (DVR) Receivers allow you to record hours of programming to watch later while you will still be able to watch basic programs and purchase programming packages. It may also allow you to pause a live broadcast or fast forward through commercials.
• High Definition TV (HDTV) Receivers are needed to receive high definition programming.
Although most satellite television companies do not charge for basic receivers, they do charge a fee for DVR, HDTV and additional receivers.
HD Televisions
While not directly satellite television equipment, the type of television you already have or buy will play a significant role in your satellite TV equipment functionality. For example, many people mistakenly believe that an high definition television will automatically provide high definition pictures. Your HDTV alone will not give you the HDTV quality pictures, although it is a necessity to have one. In order to see high definition programming in high definition, it is necessary to have the high definition television receiver to receive and unscramble the signal and deliver it to the HD television.
Choosing your satellite TV equipment becomes easy once you know what features are best suited to your needs. If you are not a regular or frequent television viewer, spending a little extra on an HDTV and supporting equipment might not make sense. You must understand that your television by itself won’t deliver the HDTV quality that you want.
DISH TV provides you with a large variety of packages ranging from sports to movies to HD. DISH has you covered no matter your wants or needs.
