How To Become A High Fashion Model

As you page through the latest fashion magazines, have you ever wondered who those girls are and how they got there? Well, surprisingly, there are a few different ways to become a high fashion model. Some girls are just discovered by an agent or photographer on the street or grocery store, like Gisele Bundchen, the famous Brazilian super model. Others start with small agencies in their local area, and then transfer to big cities. Many take the plunge and move to a more appropriate market, and find a modeling agency when they arrive. All of these girls have some things in common. First, they meet the physical standard to become a high fashion model in the chosen market with a certain agency.

You may have an interest in becoming a high fashion model if you are one of the tallest and slimmest people you know. High fashion models are typically tall and thin. Designers like this look for the way the clothing hangs on the body; 5’9” is typically the minimum height. There are some exceptions, but generally those exceptions happen with models who are already established and have been working for a long time.

Next, take down your measurements. Grab a tailors tape and measure your bust, hips, and waist. For bust you can use your bra size. For high fashion models, this can range anywhere from a 31A to a 36C. Waist measurements are generally 23” to 24”, and hips, 33” to 35”.

If you’ve got the physical attributes, the next step is the skill. Good high fashion models can effortlessly portray a character in a photo while making the clothes look amazing. The model should be able to tell a story through the photo. There has to be substance behind the eyes; something special and alluring that makes people want to be the model in those clothes. How do you accomplish this? Well, some girls can do it naturally, and others need to practice. You will learn more about what poses and expressions work for you, as you do more and more in front of the camera. Practice makes perfect. You can do it on your computer camera, or have a friend take some photos of you for practice sake. Often times, you will find a photographer who is looking to get the same kind of practice, and you can work together for a common goal. Check out other high fashion models. A lot of the poses are pretty common. Practice in high heels, practice in swim suits and dresses. Think about different scenarios when you’re having your photo taken.

Being a high fashion model is a unique business. You must have a very open schedule also. Castings and photo shoots are generally last minute and can happen any time of day or night. Some may last a week. Like any business, you need to be professional and prepared when the time comes to get ahead. Make sure to take good care of yourself – high fashion modeling is the most stringent when it comes to hair, skin and body requirements.

How To Brief Your After Dinner Speaker

Once you’ve gone to the trouble of hiring an after dinner speaker you might believe that all the hard work is over. Sadly this is not necessarily the case. After you’ve made the arrangements for who’ll be speaking you have to start your preparation work by ensuring that your after dinner speaker is fully briefed so he or she can be ready.

Many people make the mistake of assuming that hiring a professional after dinner speaker will guarantee them a professional speech with no problems. To save yourself the tedium of listening to a speech which has been recycled and used on every audience the speaker has ever addressed, you need to make sure the speaker knows some basic details before he or she tailors a presentation to the audience.

One of the simplest things that you must remember is the most often forgotten: to give the speaker enough information about the audience. He or she needs to know the age and gender of the audience and the reason they are in a room together in the first place. Are they workmates? Do they belong to a club or organisation? All of this is important and affects the speech. You should also let the after dinner speaker know exactly what the audience will be expecting from the speech. Whether they are expected motivation, humour, advice or something else entirely will affect the speech.

It is to be hoped you watched the speaker in action before hiring him or her. You should therefore feel confident that they won’t be littering their speech with clichés which will bore your audience Don’t feel guilty mentioning this to the speaker though. If you believe that your audience will appreciate or detest certain jokes then inform the speaker well ahead of time.
When reviewing the after dinner speaker before booking him or her you hopefully saw how they captured the audience’s attention. This is important in any speech, but if you believe your audience will be restless then you should also forewarn your speaker so that they can prepare to include the more interesting content early to grab the audience’s attention.
