Posing For Photoshoots
Posing for photo shoots
As a new model or client you will generally rely on the professional photographer‘s experience to guide you with posing in order to look your best. Even someone who has attended many photo shoot sittings will require the photographer’s eye to fine tune their poses to make for a more flattering photo. Naturally you will be nervous, and the client will often stand in front of the camera wondering what to do. This is where hiring a professional photographer with a couple years experience will get you a better final result. For an unexperienced photographer directing a client or model can be a difficult task. If you have hired a professional photographer who you feel comfortable working with, when they direct you to pose, you in tern will feel at ease. The goal is to emphasize your best features.
A large full length mirror will be your best friend.
You may not have done this before, but in the lead up to your photo session take time to look at yourself in a full length mirror. Have a fitting with the items of clothing you wish to wear for the photos. Now this is the part you do when no one is around. POSE! The mirror is the photographer. What side do you find is your good side? Are you concerned about your chin? lowering the shoulders down and gently bringing forward the chin, defines the jaw, elongates the neck and brings out the structure of the collar bone. What to do with your hands? Where are your feet and hips positioned in relationship to the mirror? How is your weight distributed? Accepting your body and understanding your core and how it balances is a key to posing well. If you have done yoga, tai chi or pilates you may already be used to balancing. If you are not used to this you may want to take a class or just try imitate a short video found on line just to get your balance. You will find the photo shoot difficult if you don’t know your center. Even though the posing or photo’s look natural often it requires a lot of leg strength to hold the stance or pose in place and particularly core strength. Believe it or not but it takes a lot of effort to look carefree happy and keep your head and body in a precise angle so you look perfect. It’s not easy being a model and posing, but anyone can get the best out of their photo shoot with some mirror practicing, direction from the professional photographer and author of this article and confidence.
