Adams Comments On Women Draws Major Flak
Scott Adams, who most people know as the creator of “Dilbert,” does not embrace corporate The United States. Yet several believe the ultra-successful comic artist and commentator went too far in a recent blog post regarding men’s rights and his view of arguing with women. A firestorm of protest over Adams’ reputed sexist remarks prompted the artist to delete the post from his blog and fire back at his critics online.
Many caught the article before Scott Adams deleted it
While Scott Adams’ original article is no longer available via the “Dilbert” blog, numerous feminist blogs have captured the article in its entirety. The original article is what started the dispute for Adams:
“The reality is that women are treated differently by society for exactly the same reason that children and the mentally handicapped are treated differently. It’s just easier this way for everyone. You don’t argue with a four-year old about why he shouldn’t eat candy for dinner. You don’t punch a mentally handicapped guy even if he punches you first. And you don’t argue when a women tells you she’s only making 80 cents to your dollar. It’s the path of least resistance. You save your energy for more important battles.
“How many times do we men suppress our natural instincts for sex and aggression just to get something better in the long run? It’s called a strategy. Sometimes you sacrifice a pawn to nail the queen. If you’re still crying about your pawn when you’re having your way with the queen, there’s something wrong with you and it isn’t men’s rights.”
The firestorm would have disappeared had Adams just pulled the article and apologized to female readers, Comics Alliance explained. Adams did pull the post, however he followed up with a fiery attack against critics that indicated that he’d had no change of heart.
Reading comprehension difficulties since it is not sexist
In his comments, Adams said he was criticizing men and women activists. He responded on the blog Feministe. He said:
“Is this an entire website dedicated to poor reading comprehension? I don’t think one of you understood the writing. You’re all hopping mad about your own misinterpretations… comments about the piece were little more than name-calling.”
Adams said that dealing with name calling demands you:
“Treat the name-callers as you would angry children, by not debating and not taking it personally.”
There are differences between men and females
By talking about the men and females differences in this way where there is so much conflict, the Comics Alliance explains that Scott Adams does a disservice to the world, as several would agree. Adams’ “path of least resistance” is the coward’s escape in the minds of most of Scott Adams’ critics right now.
