The Annual Pitchfork Music Festival
The Pitchfork Indie Rock Festival in Chicago, IL is the greatest music festival for music fans who love the kind of hip music that music bloggers tend to go nuts over.
If you’re planning to travel to the Windy City for this festival then you will likely want to make your Chicago hotel reservations at Chicago Hotel Deals. It’s a great service for finding the lowest room rates and it can even help you find pet friendly hotels in Chicago.
What follows is a paragraph about each of five of the best bands/artists who will be playing at the 2011 Pitchfork festival.
Animal Collective may just be Pitchfork’s favorite band (at least after their not so great response to Radiohead’s The King of Limbs.) Personally I’m of a few different opinions when it comes to this band. While I really respect that they record music that truly challenges me, I don’t always really enjoy listening to it. But with that said I have had some interesting listening experiences with Animal Collective and I would love to see them perform live.
Fleet Foxes make serene tunes that put a subtly modern twist on the late ’60s sounds of Simon & Garfunkel and Crosby, Stills, & Nash. If you love acoustic guitars, meaningful lyrics, and sweet harmonies then you should definitely give these guys a chance.
Guided By Voices have 16 albums to their name from 1987′s Devil Between My Toes to 2004′s Half Smiles of the Decomposed. 1994′s Bee Thousand and 1995′s Alien Lanes are thought by most Guided By Voices fans to be their best albums so I would start there if you’re new to the band.
Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti is one of the weirdest bands I have ever listened to. I’m not really all that sure I actually like their music that much but I do find them to be quite interesting and I do love their song “Round and Round.” Their shtick seems to be doing bizarre versions of cheesy 1980s era pop music.
Battles makes very intense rhythmic recordings. You are quite unlikely to hear yourself humming a Battles song in the shower. They make the kind of music that I can very much enjoy if I am in the right mood for it but that I find pretty annoying most of the time.
