<g:plusone size="standard" count="false" url="http://www.betterconcerts.com/piano-classes-for-amateurs.html"></g:plusone>

There are numerous of you who are on the lookout for piano lessons for beginners so here are some questions I regularly get asked by would be pianists or keyboard players.

How long will it take?

A lot of people take up the guitar because after only a short time of learning you’ll be able to get a reasonable sound and be playing certain popular songs. Traditionally with the piano it takes a pretty long time and needs lots of hard work before you can be playing recognisable music. Happily now there are one or two home study courses that use sound and video to teach you piano in multiple styles or genres. These courses train you to play by ear and how to read music. With these courses you will be playing identifiable music from the start.

What is the price of piano tuition?

Piano tuition with a professional teacher can cost anything from $50 to $100 or even more for an hour long session. The bulk of teachers offer one on one lessons in their own houses, in a music center or they’re going to come to you. Some charge $50 an hour and other people will charge you $200 every month giving you a lesson a week. If you download a home learning course then you will get way more than a years worth of lessons for only $50.

Can’t you find free lessons on the Internet?

Yes, there are free piano lessons available at one or two web sites. Many of them are actually basic first steps beginners piano tuition that only cover the initiation into piano playing and do not go much further. The same can be said for the videos that are found online too… They are going to teach you the basics and little more. There are some videos that teach you a certain song. With most you have got to follow what the person is playing and with others step-by-step directions are given. Though there is not any structure to these lessons you ought to be ale to pick up something from them but it won’t be a total coaching.

<g:plusone size="standard" count="false" url="http://www.betterconcerts.com/learn-piano-at-home-on-your-computer.html"></g:plusone>

Up till only in the near past the only possible way to truly learn piano was to go to a teacher for piano lessons. The lessons would generally be around an hour long and you would go to lessons regularly. You can nowadays download whole piano courses off the web which will teach you ways to play the piano from a complete starter level and will lead you right up to a high intermediate level all on your own while not having to see a regular private piano teacher.

These courses are composed of a collection of audio and video files with examples of what you have got to be playing and how to play it. There’s a complete printable manual with its own lessons professionally laid out and a whole host of little exercises and pieces to learn how to play.

This method of being taught has a good deal of benefits over standard piano classes, as an example, you don’t need to turn up for your lesson without exception every week, you can have your lessons when you like..In addition you are not tethered to a certain lesson. As soon as you are prepared for the subsequent lesson or the subsequent stage then you can press on when you are prepared or contrarily if you’re experiencing difficulty with a specific lesson then you can simply spend a little more time on it.

With the computer it can on occasions be a touch difficult to read the music or the lessons off the computer screen simply because it can be tricky to position the PC screen over the piano as you would a piece of music, (unless you’ve an ipad of course). For that reason I find it more helpful to print the lesson I am going to be practicing on and use this version on the piano just as I might a piano book or sheet music.

An extra useful benefit of playing with the computer close by is the facility to record yourself. You will be most likely startled when you play back what you thought was a modest performance of your exercises or set pieces but this is a nice thing because it lets you put into perspective how far you have come and how far you have got to go to learn piano and become an expert player.

You might also need to think about playing some pieces that aren’t a part of the programme you are learning with. Aside from giving you the opportunity to play some pieces of your own choice this will also expand your flexibility on the keyboards. You’ll easily be able to get to an intermediate level of playing by utilizing a home learning course and in general they’re a great way for any person to learn piano by themselves.

Look at the Learn iano Reviewshere for more in-depth info and help on the right way to learn piano along with a few in depth evaluations on home learning courses and a free chord-sheet and starter course to piano playing.

<g:plusone size="standard" count="false" url="http://www.betterconcerts.com/online-piano-lessons-or-real-piano-lessons.html"></g:plusone>

A few years back the first online piano course was released and as it’s a absolutely new idea it was frowned on. Now there are several of these online piano courses available and they are turning out to be impressive and are becoming very well-liked among the beginner piano player. These internet courses basically are composed of a collection of lessons prepared by a professional piano teacher. They come in various formats with video and audio files regularly combined with.pdf files which can on occasion be printed out into tuition books. The online courses are suitable or beginners to piano playing or keyboard playing but once the student has reached a fixed level then it is probably best for them to carry on their tuition by going straight to a regular piano teacher.

Beginning your learning by utilizing an online piano course is intensely cost-effective and will hopefully take you up to a level of playing where you really should know if the piano is for you or not and hence decide of you wish to peruse it by dedicating time and cash to one on one lessons. There are numerous benefits to these new home study piano courses and one or two downsides too which I am going to try to outline here.

The first and most important advantage I can think about is that of the cost concerned. The typical online piano course will cost somewhere in the area of $50. This should contain enough lessons to last you a year or thereabouts and to get you up to a fairly high intermediate level of playing. If you go to regular lessons with a piano teacher then you’ll be luck if you can get two lessons for this cost.

Time is another critical factor to take into account. Imagine the standard 60 minutes piano lesson… After you’ve got ready to go out, travelled to the piano teacher’s house or studio, waited around for the prior student to finish, taken the lesson and travelled back home you will have at the very least taken 2 hours or more. This can actually eat into an entire afternoon or evening not leaving time for anything more. If you’re using a home study course then you’ll be able to fit the lessons in whenever you have got a free moment. Be it an hour, a half hour or maybe 10 minutes. Your lessons are absolutely flexible… No traveling and no hanging around.

With an online piano course you can work through the lessons at your own speed, You can skip lessons if you happen to feel the or you can rewind and repeat lessons as frequently as you like. You can watch a video several times on how to play something whereas with a teacher you will get shown and will need to remember what you were shown at least until the next lesson. There’s no rewinding your piano teacher.

Seeing a teacher on a regular basis does have some advantages and later on will become necessary. The piano teacher will be in a position to observe your playing and will mention things that you’re unable to see personally. They are going to be ready to stop bad habits form forming before it gets too late as these bad habits are commonly much more difficult to fix at later.

As I discussed before, an internet home study piano course is superb for beginners but is only actually valid till you get to a certain level of playing. You’ll eventually need to take regular lessons with a teacher if you want on furthering your playing.

For more info on the way to learn piano online you can download free chord charts and get access to free videos to teach yourself piano at the piano learners web site.

<g:plusone size="standard" count="false" url="http://www.betterconcerts.com/choosing-the-best-online-piano-courses.html"></g:plusone>

Learning how to play the piano is something many people want to do throughout the world. More and more people are looking towards online piano courses as a viable option. There are some things that you need to look at before you decide which course is best for you. Today, we will look at the options that are available to you on the web.

One of the first things to look into is the type of instruction you will be receiving. Will it be in audio or video form, or a combination of both? These days video is being used more than ever and would be the most logical choice. If it is just audio you will need to hear samples to see how well it is produced and taught before moving ahead.

Looking at how the program is constructed is very important. Does the course start from the very beginning or only touches on certain points. This is very important as you will want to know what you will be learning and how the program will proceed. You will want to know what the final result will be from your studying as well.

Many people wonder which option is better free or paid. Most of the time the free option will not go into great detail which is a drawback to them. The paid option usually is better as it goes into greater detail. You tend to learn more as it highlights the areas that most people need work in. Monthly memberships are another option to consider if you need a refresher course on the piano.

Who is teaching the course of provided the material. The problem with many of the free courses, you really do not know who wrote the course nor did the videos. You will want to find out who the instructor is or who made the videos. You want to check their qualifications before you spend any money at all.

These days many of these courses now offer bonuses for joining. Many times these bonuses are used to get you to join a certain program. Never join a program just because you want the bonuses that come with it. You want to look over the overall course including the bonuses.

The truth is there are many online piano courses that will help you learn how to play this instrument. Taking your time is the key to picking the right program for you. Not every program is for everyone this is why you need to look over every program very carefully.

<g:plusone size="standard" count="false" url="http://www.betterconcerts.com/piano-chord-basics.html"></g:plusone>

If you have decided to teach yourself piano at home instead of going to a professional piano teacher then you will probably have purchased a home study course off the Internet or a piano learning Dvd or video. The first thing you will learn is how to locate all of the notes on the keyboard and how to play a few simple melodies. Soon after you will have lo learn several basic chords… Once you can play melodies and chords then you are well on your way to playing identifiable music. In nearly all cases this occurs pretty quickly.

For up to date and detailed video reviews on the best home study piano courses see the Piano Review website.

The essential piano chords are in fact all that you need in the beginning and they are not that complex to play. The easiest piano chord consists of only 3 notes. Also, in its simplest form the base or first of these three notes is the note of the name of the chord itself. Therefore for a chord of C the base note would be C etc. The subseqauent notes are quite simple too… Just go two notes up and two notes up once more. This means that from the root of C for instance, you move up two notes to the E and then two more up to the G. So the chord of C consists of the notes C, E and G. You might also check out the following site for supplementary information on learning piano at home: Piano For Beginners

This becomes somewhat more difficult when it comes to other keys because the use of sharps and flats is included too. When you are playing in the key of D for example the F note is always played as F sharp so this makes the notes of the D chord, D, Fsharp and A. The pattern of this fundamental chord though will stay the same. Play the Note of the chord or the bass note then miss one and play one, miss one and play one and thats it.

To these newly discovered chords you simply need insert a bass note and a little rhythm and before long you will be playing identifiable music. You will find it quite easy to remember the patterns of each chord but just to be certain you get it right there is is a chord sheet available on my blog to set you straight. This will indicate the notes contained in all of the chords. There is a video review of the most popular piano course available here: How to learn piano

<g:plusone size="standard" count="false" url="http://www.betterconcerts.com/learn-piano-how-to-structure-your-piano-practice-2.html"></g:plusone>

After having spent weeks on your piano playing it can be just a little demoralizing to realize that after all your hard work you do not appear to have got any better. A lack in progress is the single most common reason that people give up learning to play the piano, this is above all true in children and younger people. Here are a few tips to help you with your own personal practice sessions which ought to help you to make progress more quickly. There are some evaluations of the greatest home study piano courses and some free beginners guides available at the Learn Piano web site.

Organize your practice time and make a daily routine to make the most out of your practice time. This will be a bit different for each individual based on the sort of music they are learning and the style they are intending to play in.

The first thing to do when you sit down to practice is to warm up. This can be done very successfully by practicing scales and arpeggios which aside from loosening up the fingers also serves in becoming more at ease at playing in all keys.

As soon as you have fInished the warm up you can then start working on your pieces. You will know where the difficult passages are in the pieces that you are studying. Go directly to these sections at the beginning of your practice sessions. Separate the hands and use a few moments playing each hand individually. First the right hand and after that the left hand but do keep swapping over so as not to let the other hand get cold. Now trry the difficult passage with both hands together. You could also see the following site for extra information on learning piano in the home: How to learn piano

Now you can go onto practicing the entire piece and feel more comfortble when it comes to that difficult part you have just practiced.

Always use a metronome when you play your scales and arpeggios and use it for your pieces too if they permit it. To start with set the metronome at a slower tempo so that you can practice the piece more correctly. Over the space of a few days you can slowly begin to increment the speed of the metronome until you are playing it at speed. You might even benefit from practicing the piece quicker than it should be just to get your fingers really working and used to the piece.

You need to learn how to relax at the same time as you are playing. Relax your fingers, your back and in fact your whole posture. It is so hard to control your fingers and hands if you have tension in your body which often comes when you feel uneasy doing something. This is a little bit like learning to ride a bike or drive a car. At first there are so many things to think about that it is all so difficult but once you can start to trust and relax then you will find that it all starts to flow a lot easier. There is a video review of the top piano course available here: How to learn piano

Daily practice by itself is not really enough to learn the piano properly but a steady and structured practice routine will definitely give you an advantage.

<g:plusone size="standard" count="false" url="http://www.betterconcerts.com/learn-piano-at-home.html"></g:plusone>

Up until only a few years ago the only way to learn piano was to go to a piano teacher for lessons. These would probably be hour long sessions once a week and they would probably be in the teachers own residence or piano studio. You can nowadays download entire piano courses off the internet which will show you how to play the piano from an absolute starter level and will teach you right up to a high intermediate level all on your own without having to go to a traditional professional piano teacher. There is a video review of the best piano course available here: How to learn piano

These courses consist of a set of video and audio files with examples of what you have to be playing and how to play it. They usually come with a book or manual which can be viewed on your computer containing all of the lessons and exercises with references to the video and audio files.

Being taught to play the piano by using one of these programs has quite a lot of advantages such as being able to program your own tuition without having to go for for lessons at a set time each week..In addition you are not tethered to a certain lesson. If you become ready to move onto the next lesson then you are free to do so, and on the contrary, if you are having difficulty then there is no hurry to move onto more advanced lessons until you are truly ready to go ahead.

If you don’t possess an ipad then you will almost certainly find it a bit difficult to position your monitor so you can read the music and play the piano or keyboards at the same time. I myself generally print off the lesson and all of the examples and set them on the piano just as I would a piece of sheet music.

A lot of the home study programs suggested at the learn piano blog below include a software metronome. This will provide you with that all familiar clicking for you to play along with so as to learn how to keep in time. There are some critiques of the top home study piano courses and some free beginners guides available at the Learn Piano web site.

Another useful benefit of playing with the computer nearby is the ability to record yourself. It will be surprising to you when you listen to yourself playing I can promise but it can really teach you where you need to put in more attention and effort in your practice.

You might also want to consider playing some pieces that are not a part of the program you are learning with. This will expand your capabilities and will give you the chance to select some pieces that you like and will enjoy learning to play. On the learn piano blog below there are a list of some internet sites that offer free piano sheet music for newbies. You might also see the following site for supplementary information on learning piano in the home:
Piano For Beginners

You will comfortably be able to get to an intermediate level of playing by using a home study course and in general they are a great way for anybody to master piano by themselves.

<g:plusone size="standard" count="false" url="http://www.betterconcerts.com/is-learning-the-piano-using-a-dvd-really-for-me-2.html"></g:plusone>

Downloading a home study course off the internet or purchasing a DVD are both really common ways of learning the piano these days. This appears to be rapidly replacing what are the normal piano lessons. To teach yourself at home nowadays is now quite possible whereas only a few years ago it was not really a viable idea. This is completely due to the rapid improvements in technology permitting you to have what is almost a virtual piano teacher available around the clock in your own home.

For up to date and detailed video reviews on the best home study piano courses see the Piano Review website.

A good number of the home study courses are set up to take you from the absolute basic level up to a pretty high intermediate level and they do this by means of a piano handbook which is backed up by a collection of video and audio files. Each course has its own method and manual of course. Some will train you more normal and classical techniques but the bulk of those to be had now will teach you how to play in multiple styles and genres. You will be taught how to play by ear, how to read music and also how to read chord sheets. If you begin to learn using one of these courses then you will acquire a really good background and will turn out to be fairly versatile right form the very start. You might also take a look at the following site for extra information on learning piano in your own home: How to learn piano

Using a regular piano teacher for individual lessons is the alternative. Problems like not being capable of program your lessons to fit in with your agenda or only being able to press on at the pace that your teacher sets are only a few of the drawbacks of going to a piano teacher instead of learning to play at home.

You need to make your mind up which will be the best method for you but typically for beginning you can get a very first-rate background to piano playing by using a home study course which will take you up to at least an intermediate level of playing. If you get to this level then you are without doubt going to want to continue learning, in that case you will most probably need to go to a specialist teacher as the home study courses are inclined to work best for beginners and intermediate levels only. There is a video review of the most popular piano course available here: How to learn piano

<g:plusone size="standard" count="false" url="http://www.betterconcerts.com/learn-piano-5-steps-to-getting-started.html"></g:plusone>

When it comes to the basics of learning the piano you can break the process down into 5 simple steps. Follow these steps and you will be well on your way to becoming proficient on the keyboards and will be able to take on more advanced lessons.

Step 1 – Find out where the notes are

It might seem just a little intimidating when you first sit at the keyboards and see all 88 black and white keys before you. You will be relieved when you realize that there are really only 12 notes to learn as the keys are grouped into repeating groups of twelve notes. Each group of 12 notes is one octave. If you can manage to learn all of the notes of one octave then you have in effect learned all of the notes as they are all repeated up and down the keyboard.

Step 2 -Learn some tunes

Now that you are aware of where all of the notes are you can start to play simple tunes. If you are going to be learning to read music then here is where you begin to associate the notes played with the notes on the keyboard. For up to date and detailed video reviews on the best home study piano courses see the Piano Review website.

Step 3 – Use the left hand as well

You will have almost certainly been playing your beginner melodies with your right hand. Actually, both hands need to be exercised to become as flexible and nimble-fingered as each other. Play your little melodies with the the other hand too.

Step 4 – Teach yourself some basic chords

Now you can play some simple tunes you can start to learn some simple chords. All of the simple 3 note chords all comprise of the same note patterns… The first note of the scale, the third and the fifth. This will give you a basic chord or triad in root position. You can teach yourself three or four of these and have the capacity to play a great number of popular tunes and songs. You might also see the following site for extra information on learning piano in the home: Piano For Beginners

Step 5 – Put the hands together

The last step is to start to unite your hands and use them both at the same time. A straightforward bass line in the left hand with chords in the right hand is one way of playing. An alternative method is to play a tune with the right hand at the same time as playing the chords with your left hand. What ever way you ought to now have reached a beginner level of piano playing and be ready for using higher intermediate material.

<g:plusone size="standard" count="false" url="http://www.betterconcerts.com/3-tips-to-improve-your-piano-playing.html"></g:plusone>

For all of the beginner piano players and if you are at an intermediate level also then here are several simple but valuable tips that should be of some use to you.

Practice Regularly

I cannot stress how imperative it is to practice repeatedly. To nearly all kids who learn the piano this can be a chore which in many cases leads to them giving up the instrument later on. For the grownup student though the impetus is different and having a wish to learn the piano will keep nearly all people going and make practice less dull. The most significant point about regular practice is that it will strengthen your muscles and will get your fingers and your brain communicating with each other more effectively. After several days you will get used to playing and you will not need to think about it so much. A few days away from your practice routine and you will notice a definite change in your playing for the worse. For up to date and detailed video reviews on the best home study piano courses see the Piano Review website.

Set goals

If you are learning to play the piano at home by yourself or if you have a teacher then it is often a good idea to make a few concrete but achievable goals to help you on your way. Goals for the long term and goals for the long term can be set. A good goal for the short term could be to perfect a particular piece or maybe even just a progression of chords. You have to constantly repeat the piece or exercise in your practice sessions until sooner or later it will be learned. For a long term goal you might want to reach a particular level of playing by passing an exam or by being able to do something like play in public or accompany a singer etc. The setting of goals doesn’t necessarily have to include time limits and deadlines but it might help. You could also take a look at the following site for supplementary information on learning piano at home: How to play piano

You will make Mistakes – Don’t let it concern you

You will make mistakes when you practice and also when you perform, this is only natural, it can be very easy to get bogged down and to focus on perfection. There are times nonetheless when fluidity is more beneficial than perfection. You have to brush over the mistakes now and then and carry on playing. You have to remember where the mistakes occur so you can observe if you are making the same mistake repeatedly, in that case you could practice that section thoroughly until you have it perfected. Don’t pay a great deal of attention to your mistakes and errors and they will either fade away with time or they will turn out to be so obvious that you will be forced to do something about them. These suggestions should make it simpler for you to practice and will help you to become a top piano player. Take a look at this short video I made that if full of tips on how to play the piano for beginners.

What is middle C, how do you find it, and why is it so important are all questions we’re going to answer in this article.

Middle C – What Exactly is it?

Middle C is quite literally the middle C key on your piano. It’s the first key you most often learn as a beginner and is an easy reference point for the area of the keyboard many popular songs start.

Finding Middle C isn’t difficult, but it will take a little memorization.

Finding Middle C on a Piano and Keyboard

Middle C on a piano is the 4th C from the left hand side of the keys. On a piano if you know your note locations and steps then you can count from the left: the 1st C is the 3rd key, the 2nd C is the 10th key and so on every 7 keys is a C until you hit the fourth one. Middle C therefore is the 24th white key in from the left hand side.

On a keyboard this may vary depending on the number of keys. If you keyboard has 88 keys then it’s still the 4th C but if you have a 76, 61 or 49 key keyboard it’s the 3rd C. You can still location middle C the exact same way counting white keys from the left hand side of the keyboard.

To memorize the position of middle C note how many black key sets precede it. You can use those black keys as a reference point to quickly find middle C.

The Importance of Middle C

From a musical point of view middle C denotes the area of the piano where a lot of the chords, notes etc. Begin in popular music. Middle C is also the split on the keyboard for where your right hands and left hands play.
