Learning How To Oil Paint Changed My World
Learning how to oil paint has been one of the most enloghtening experiences in my life. My perspective of almost everything changed when I started painting. I look at nature differently. I see people in a new way. I see architecture in a whole new light. Almost everything changes when you see it through the eyes of an artist.
Beginning to paint can be intimidating. Obviously many very talented painters exist. It is perfectly understandable to feel inadequate. The most important thing you need to understand as a new artist is that you don’t need to please anybody except yourself.
I began with some basic landscape paintings. I simply took my easel out into my property and painted some shrubbery, grass and trees. I also painted the clouds in the sky. It’s pretty difficult to mess up clouds! Next I moved on to flowers and then the birds, rabbits and squirrels that lived on our property. None of these paintings turned out to be anything that you would want to display in their home. Heck I didn’t even want to hang them in my own house! But the point is that I was discovering who I was as a new artist.
I painted quite a bit in my beginning stages. I found it to be very relaxing yet at the same time it was exciting. After a few months of experimenting I enrolled in a oil painting class at a nearby community college. I learned some of the basics and advanced from there. The great part about oil painting is that you can go as far as you want with it. If that means that you are the only one that ever sees your paintings, then that is fine. The important thing is for you to pick up some art supplies and just get started. You will never regret doing so I can promise you that.
