Horror Classics From Excellent Authors
When people think of authors that have written horror classics throughout the years, they quite often think of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Clive Barker, McCammon, and perhaps a number of others. These authors are absolutely the best selling of the ton but certainly not the whole spectrum. The horror genre has grown to be even more popular through the years considering that Stephen King first wrote his best-selling novel “Carrie”, the 1 book that did a lot more than any other to push the limits of scary literature in the 20th century. Following that emerged a multitude of copycat authors, Koontz included, and even Stephen King himself became fairly trapped in the genre, in spite of his recurring tries later in life to sneak out.
Horror classics could be the hardest kind of books to write due to the expansion of horror motion pictures, most people believe they are experienced. Since most people today do not read but instead wait around for the film (which is a huge mistake since only one book out of many gets converted into a film) they don’t know the many electrifying chills they’re missing. Wonderful horror classics in literature form are a great deal more frightening than their celluloid (or digital) knock-offs. Very few great horror films have been produced from great horror books but the best of the gang are “The Exorcist” (original book by William Peter Blatty), “Carrie” (Stephen King), and “The Shining” (King once more).
One of the greatest books ever published and of the real modern-day horror classics is “Song of Kali” by Dan Simmons. Released in 1985, Song of Kali tells the story of a poetry editor who visits Calcutta with his wife and baby girl to find a few poetry left behind by a allegedly deceased poet. What he discovers is a filthy, horrible, criminally mad town that keeps serious mysteries, crazed cults, and supernatural terrors far beyond anything he could ever have imagined. Read through this one with all the light on.
“Carrie” by Stephen King is still greatly considered the author’s finest and 1 of the everlasting horror classics of the past century. King’s power to change the mundane, in this instance the tale of a nerdy, introverted girl being bullied in high school, into a riveting tale of the supernatural is awesome and absolute genius. The wonderful characters that fill Carrie, which includes her religion crazed mother, are extremely unforgettable and you will never forget the ending. Even though film was good, the book is actually much better, as they often are.
Other terror classics include “Something Wicked This Way Comes” by the late, great Ray Bradbury who is better known for his science fiction than his shocking terror, and “Ghost Story” by Peter Straub. Both are excellent books and you must not miss them. One more excellent author of horror classics is Ramsay Campbell and his fantastic book “The Hungry Moon” will leave you howling. “I Am Legend” by Richard Matheson was turned into a hit Hollywood film but once again the book is much better. These are just some of the horror classics made into movies, of which some are shot in green screen studios making use of green screen backgrounds.
