Home Cinema: The Complete Package?
Technology plays a massive part of our everyday lives, and has altered our houses. In the wealthier countries worldwide, having a Hi Def flat screen TV seems almost omnipresent, and surround-sound audio effects (once the preserve of geeks and audiophiles) is commonplace. Merged with games consoles, Blu-ray DVD players and live TV by pausing and rewinding – you have a formidable home cinema package.
Just 11 years ago at the dawn of the new century, many of the self-styled specialists prophesying what the new homes would be like basically overlooked the progress home cinema systems would make, in its place directed on automation, energy efficiency and fridges that patronise you by informing you when you’re out of milk.
Purpose-built media rooms were once only for the multi-millionaire, but as the cost of technology has decreased considerably, they have developed into a more classless plan. You can now outfit a space as a stand-alone home cinema space starting from £5K. Of course, you could easily budget for £100K if you were feeling specifically extravagant, but you can authentically realise great results for sensible budgets.
Often, professionals now put in home cinemas as when refurbishing a home or on a new-build project. Retailers and designers say a rising number of clients are seeking out furniture to finalise their media rooms such as disc storage, in addition to methods to hide cables and other gear. Many folks in addition would like to include existing audio visual equipment for example MP3 and IPod docks, CD players and amplifiers. You can select off the shelf or bespoke cabinetry to house some or all of your gear. These can be designed to contain LCD or plasma TVs which can be raised on a scissor jack when wanted and secreted in the cabinet when turned off. The up-to-date equipment is exampled by Infra Red repeater systems that permit all of the equipment to be positioned anywhere in the room or house and controlled remotely. Best of all is the option to have single touch screen driven remote controls which can organise your entire equipment, as well as your electric blinds and even your lighting.
3D home cinema is already a reality, and will become increasingly commonplace over the next couple of years. On the horizon so-called 4-D cinema may find its way into our homes as well. 4-D cinema combines 3D images and audio with imitation physical effects such as rain, wind and vibration. And manufacturers including Apple are already working on holographic cinema, where 3D pictures can be seen without the need for glasses from any spot or viewpoint. Whether any home cinema package could ever truly match the big screen experience is open to question, however.
