Piano – A Brief Overview
Piano is perhaps arguably the most famous musical instrument in today’s time.It is a musical device controlled by a keyboard that can produce a variety of sounds based on the key pattern.Piano is the heart and soul of any musical concert, dance show, solo or group performance, opera, parties, and so on.Musicians of all eras and categories have made extensive use of piano for composing classical and everlasting music.Traditional pianos are typically of large size making them pretty much non-portable.Pianos are not a common object found in all drawing rooms because of their high cost.
Vertical pianos and horizontal pianos are the two main categories into which traditional pianos can be broadly classified.Grand pianos with long length are known as horizontal pianos. The key action for such grand pianos is very much responsive and they are said to produce the finest tones possible.Petite, Medium, Baby and Concert grand are some of the commonly known horizontal pianos. On the other hand, vertical pianos have more height and are commonly used in apartments, schools or medium sized music studios. Some of the commonly known vertical pianos include spinet, upright, studio and console pianos.
Proper maintenance is indeed a requirement for traditional pianos.Regular tuning is also required for proper sound output and long life of the piano. The keys should be regularly wiped and cleaned with a damp cloth.Cleaning solutions specifically made for pianos can be used here.Similarly, the piano cabinet needs to be treated like any wooden furniture and cleaned regularly.Piano should be placed in areas which are free from excessive humidity. This is because high humidity may cause the keys to stick and strings may rust out.A registered piano tuner technician should be employed twice a year for proper tuning of piano.
Digital and electronic pianos manufactured by different brands are on the rampage in today’s market, thanks to technical advancement.Superior sound quality is offered by the Yamaha NP30, which is an extremely portable digital piano with 76 graded touch keys, 32 polyphonic notes and 10 organ voices.Nowadays, performances and music compositions have become all the more easier as modern digital pianos consist of stored sounds and inbuilt tutorials.
There are many aspects that a player needs to consider before actually buying any piano. An area that needs to be taken into account is the budget.Compared to traditional pianos, digital pianos are sure to be cheap. However, the user may have to compromise on certain aspects such as harmonic beats or polyphony.Traditional pianos also occupy more floor space, so that is an area that needs consideration as to how much room the user is willing to shell out for piano placement.
