R4 3DS Brings Old School Manic Miner To Nintendo 3DS
Manic Miner is perhaps THE game that started the platform game revolution. It was one of the very first games for classic computers that had more than one “level” so to speak. It actually had over 20 and more levels, and amazing feat for the ZX Spectrum computer, considering its limitations back then, compare to todays computers. And as I sit here and write this, I am in awe of the fact that it was remade with such style and class for the Nintendo DS and the 3DS system, in the form of Manic Miner – The Lost Levels. And all you need to be able to play it is an R4 3DS Card – a 3ds homebrew flash card for the DS and 3DS system.
In Manic Miner you become the main character, called Miner Willy, and you must help him get through some very bizzare journeys and difficult levels in this great platform game. Levels filled with killer penguins and snapping toilets that are out to get you, and will, unless the mutant telephones reach you first. You must go through each level, timing your skilled jumps to avoid the bad guys and collect various keys that open up the next levels in the game. But be careful…. one missed jump means that Willy will inevitably fall to his death as he is captured by the killer penguins.
Each level is more difficult than the last, and in this remake, each level looks better than the last. This game is so good, and so well made and designed that you will honestly forget that you are playing a free 3ds homebrew game. It really is that good, and I would have gladly shelled out even $30 dollars for this game, had I had the chance to buy it at my local game shop. There are over 150 levels in this remake for the NDS and R4 3DS Card, so you won’t be running out of game time any time soon. With the number of levels, this game keeps you entertained for hours and hours on end. It’s yet another testament to just how good this game really is, and how much work was put into it.
The sound effects and music are top notch, not at all what you would expect from a game that was made in the spare time of several developers. Visually, the game is a joy to look at and play. {With excellent Nintendo DS quality graphics and animations, old fans of Manic Miner, and new gamers alike will keep playing and playing until the game has been completed.}
If you have an R4 3DS Card, then make sure you do not miss this free 3ds homebrew game, it’s a must have game that should be in any collection – even if it weren’t free. Don’t have an R4 3DS Card? Then make sure you get one. This game is just one example of amazing 3ds homebrew gaming, taking to the professional level. And to think they are giving this game away for free. Once you do get your own R4, you will have access to all of the free 3ds homebrew games, and there are lots of them out there, all just waiting for your to play them.
