Tips On How To Deliver Good Care Of Fruit Trees
Fruit trees are enchanting in any garden and are pleasurable to look at. Over the spring, the bare branches of the winter develop into magical sticks that flourish and become filled with delicious fruits later on.
Fear not, there isn’t anything secret and mystifying about cultivating fruit trees. Merely achieving a few basic maintenance requirements will keep your trees in a flourishing condition.
Starting From the Autumn to the Spring
You should place a protective mesh around the base of young fruit trees in particular. This particular treatment prevents rats and rabbits from harming the tree. These hungry creatures frequently try to feed from the tree during the winter, as their usual daily supply of food is often limited during winter.
Paint the tree trunk. For those who have a garden somewhere it snows often in the winter, paint the tree close to its base with a latex white paint. Combine it with water (equal portions) to prevent the burns from the sun. Because the sun is reflected by the compacted snow during the winter, this can often cause great damage to the tree. Throughout the night, the chilly air will encompass the trunk and it will often crack it. This can be a dangerous situation, as those cracks are perfect places for insects that can eat your tree alive.
As the temperature goes over 4 degrees Celsius, it is time for some spring cleaning. Take care of the trees while the wind is not too strong. Garden shears may be used to give the tree a nice form but make sure to keep the crown of the tree free from growth and to give horizontal branches 10-15 cms space all round.
Keep your tree free of dead or diseased branches by cutting them off with a clean cut. As soon as any shoots appear trim them off too. The limbs that grow out horizontally must be left uncut as you will be looking for these to bear fruit. The height of a fruit tree should be the same as it’s breadth so check the tree’s height and trim the horizontal and vertical branches to the same length to get the biggest crop of fruit.
Watering your own tree is essential. A tree struggling by insufficient water is at the mercy of diseases and insect pests during the crucial period when the buds break in spring. This is critical if you want to have delicious fruit growing in spring and summer.
Branches are often pushed to grow straight through the use of supports. Be sure the horizontal tree branches don’t shade each other therefore not receive the most amount of light and bear more fruit. If you want to increase the efficiency of the trees, you can spread them manually using the special devices or by linking them one to another using ropes. Having said that, it is wise to let the tree to grow on its own until the age of four.
Pollination is the most important part of the growing process. While the fruits are growing, you can increase its efficiency by applying a special substance (usually available from your local store) to the trees that attracts the bees. It is recommended to add this to the trees only after sundown, or in the early morning.
