Seeing an author speak about their book can be amazing
It is commonplace, all over the world, for author school visits to be arranged. Teachers are always looking for methods to develop reading and writing so that children’s lives can be enriched. Inspiration and understanding flows from the visiting author to the children and gives them an uplifting change to normal school life.
Reading a good quality book, or creating an exciting narrative, can certainly nourish young minds in a multitude of ways. Reading and writing are considered to be essential for a sound education.
Many activities in life depend upon good literacy skills, from being inventive with language to understanding the directions on a container of frozen groceries. A visit from an author can draw children into the fascinating world of books.
An author school visit is a wonderful day for the children and teachers. According to the needs of the school, the author can meet the children either in classes or larger groups.
The children will gain true knowledge because it comes directly from the author. They will learn about the essential qualities of a highly practised writer. They can enter into the author’s mind as he explains how he became an author. The fun and snags of writing will be laid out before them.
A common question put to authors is, “How do you get your ideas?” A real live author is able to answer not just from theory but from experience, explaining their particular methods. A fictional writer will express their thoughts on creativity with lively explanations which reflect their passion for imaginative stories. They can give examples of moments of inspiration. Through all this, the pupils will discover their ability to be creative when writing.
During the author’s visit, children can buy his books, which is an additional benefit arising from the day. Usually the author will sign the books, giving them an extra value and a personal touch. The children leave with a keepsake of the day in the form of a book which they will read.
If you want to help children’s education then organise author school visits. Their reading will be encouraged in a revitalising and enjoyable manner.
