Kids Soccer Drills: 4 Big Reasons To Warm Up
Its unbelievable how underrated the importance of warming up in kids soccer drills is. It is something that being a coach, I would want to stress that warming up is obligatory and an important practice to lead the team towards a better start of the day. This issue is conveniently ignored as unimportant by the coaches in youth soccer drills. This has an end result in terms of injuries to players when in the practice sessions.
This article gives you some nice tips on how to get the team warmed up. Train the team to use the body movements in a way that all the muscles get worked up. This is by far the best way to activate all the body parts. If the movements are intense, body could become stiff or develop cramps.
Tip 1: Have the players jog for about 5-7 minutes initially. It is advocated that players begin printing only after a light jogging.
This must increase the pulse rate to at least 120 beats per minute. Still, measured growth is preferred. After this, the players should move their legs back and forth for around 10 minutes each. Finally, over 20 yards, make them stretch actively.
Tip 2: But make sure that this active stretching over 20 yards goes with a few warm up exercises of its own. For example, have your players skip back and forth. Also teach your players to do cross stepping. High-knee carioca can also be taught to players. These must be executed as if sprinting.
In soccer drills for kids, running towards the back is also a very useful warm up exercise. But the best way to carry it out is to raise the heels up to the butt. It is a little hard to practice this but it is the only correct way of doing it.
Tip 3: In order to buildup the force for the training session, kids soccer drills include numerous other exercises also. Have your players bounce with rings and swings. These result in giving an extra edge to the skipping exercises. The players can also be told to do cross-over bounce. It is Quick Hip Swings which is e very efficient and proven method of warming up the body, although it’s a little superior.
Then you can tell your players to do long shuffles with rotations in the middle. Tell the players to practice backward and forward leg swings. It’s a very efficient activity and helps in toning the body. Equally effective are high leg forwards and backwards.
Tip 4: Stretching must be appropriately and effectively performed. The legs benefit the most out of stretch hinge. Make sure all players have worked out their quadriceps, calves, hamstring, and groin without fail. The players not only avoid injuries but also get to increase their muscle range by stretching.
In soccer drills for youth, another important thing to ensure is that kids don’t do too much of anything. The kids may get injured needlessly because of this, as they tend to do so only in over excitement.
