First of all, the Joss Whedon / Avengers Movie rumors are not confirmed. However, it HAS been confirmed that Joss Whedon is in “final negotiations” with Marvel Studios to direct the upcoming Avengers movie. It is scheduled to be released the first weekend of May 2012, and the Joss Whedon Avengers movie may certainly be worth every pay day loan fanboys and fangirls will get to see it 30 times.
Is the Avengers director Joss Whedon?
Again, the rumors of Joss Whedon directing The Avengers have not been confirmed. Joss Whedon, in fact, has been announced as a good candidate for director of The Avengers since April 1. Marvel Studios has confirmed that “conversations are taking place” and that Joss Whedon is on “the short list” of directors to be considered for The Avengers. In 2005, Joss Whedon did an interview where he said that he “wouldn’t approach The Avengers.” A lot can change in five years, though, and it appears Joss Whedon is seriously considering the director’s chair.
The basics of The Avengers
If you’re not sure what The Avengers would be, whether directed by Joss Whedon or not, here’s the basic primer. When a huge global fight occurs where no single superhero can take on alone, a supergroup, made up of Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk Thor and Captain America, is called together to fight the evil. Although it’s supposedly a “last resort” for any or all of the superheroes, it is Nick Fury who calls the group together.

If he does agree to direct The Avengers, director and series creator Joss Whedon would be taking on his second big-screen film. Joss Whedon is best known for his television series. Lasting for several years, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was the biggest hit. Spin-off series Angel was also a relative success. Firefly, a one-season cult hit, was spun into the movie Serenity, which Joss Whedon also directed, thanks to a short term loan from the studios. The two-season series of Dollhouse is Joss Whedon’s latest project. Joss Whedon’s biggest strength has shown itself to be directing ensembles, which is exactly what The Avengers will be.
Big names in The Avengers
The cast of upcoming The Avengers that Joss Whedon might be directing is definitely huge. Some of the names include Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans. Writing the screenplay is Zak Penn, and Marvel is planning on promoting this movie all the way to its core. There’s no doubt that The Avengers will be a 2012 event that cannot be missed, considering the commercial success of most Marvel movies, along with the rabid fan base of Joss Whedon.
